This is a 1 credit course which is run by Biomedical Engineering graduate students. The course will be directed and coordinated by the faculty chair of the Biomedical Engineering Graduate Interdisciplinary Program.

Participation throughout the students’ graduate career is strongly encouraged. Ph.D. students are expected to present a minimum of two Student Forum presentations during their enrollment. Student attendance will be taken at each Student Forum. The special Graduate College grading scale (S, P, C, D, E) will be used. Grades will be based on attendance, submission of evaluation forms, and completion of assigned presentation forms. Only two student forums can be missed per semester. If a student misses more than two sessions, the make up work will be assigned by Dr. Williams.

Presentation topics will typically be a student’s current doctoral research or the results of a laboratory rotation (BME 597G) but other subject areas are welcomed if they are applicable. Audiovisual aids such as Power Point presentations or transparencies are strongly encouraged, and time should be allowed for a question and answer session at the end of the presentation. Attendees will complete and presenters will receive (confidential) written evaluations at the end of each presentation.

Additional Activities

Besides presentations by the students, the Student Forum will involve other public speaking activities and skill building sessions.

The Student Forum is designed to be an open, friendly time where students can enjoy one another’s company and research. Everyone participating should receive constructive criticism from their peers that will improve their public speaking and prepare them for the future. The Student Forum will be only as productive as the students wish to make it so it is up to us to start a successful tradition for BME 696C.
