Cardiovascular Journal Club

The students involved with the Cardiovascular Training Grant decided to organize a journal club that focuses on recent and principal papers that relate to cardiovascular issues. This journal club meets approximately every other week on Mondays, 1:00-2:00 pm in Keating Bioresearch Building, first floor conference room 107 . (A list of current dates is at the bottom of this page. Archived presentations are located to the right.)

For each meeting, one student selects an article to discuss. This article is announced one week before the meeting, at meeting the student who selected the article leads the discussion. The general format of the discussion is as follows:

  • Brief introduction:
    • Summarize the major question(s) that the authors are asking
    • Discuss the hypotheses
    • State whether or not these questions were sufficiently answered
  • Give background information on the topic
  • Dissect the basic structure of the experiments (Here, it is useful to have faculty and students from different labs who might have experience using various techniques from the paper.)
  • Go through the results and discussion (This is generally done by stepping through each figure in the paper.)

At the discretion of the presenter, snacks may be provided.
Below is a list of the students assigned to current meetings:
