Library Facilities at the University of Arizona
The Association of Research Libraries, an organization representing the 107 largest libraries in North America, ranks The University of Arizona as number 27.

The UA Library system contains more than 8.8 million items, including more than four million books. Separate collections are located around campus in Architecture, the Center for Creative Photography, Law, the Arizona Health Sciences Center, Music, the Southwest Folklore Center, Science/Engineering and other locations.

The UA Library carries its excellence into the electronic age with an on-line electronic information system called SABIO (a Spanish word meaning wise or learned one). In addition to providing students and faculty with access to more than 2 million UA library items, it contains local databases and Internet connections to hundreds of other library systems and thousands of other databases around the world. CARL/Uncover allows library customers to identify needed journal articles and have them delivered by fax. Spanish language menus, prompts and messages are available.

The Arizona Health Sciences Center (AHSC) includes the College of Medicine, the Colleges of Nursing and Pharmacy, and the School of Health Related Professions. University Medical Center, a private, non-profit hospital, also is located at AHSC. The Arizona Poison and Drug Information Center, which provides free information about drug and poison reactions and interactions, is administered by the College of Pharmacy.

Within the medical college are seven centers and 18 departments and divisions. The seven centers, designated by the Arizona Board of Regents as centers of excellence, are dedicated to specific areas of research, clinical care and teaching. They are the Arizona Arthritis Center, Arizona Cancer Center, Arizona Center on Aging, Arizona Emergency Medicine Research Center, Respiratory Sciences Center, Steele Memorial Children's Research Center and University Heart Center.

The University Physicians is the professional group practice for clinical physicians who are faculty members of the College of Medicine. University Medical Center is the primary teaching and research hospital for the colleges and serves the Southwest as a regional acute care referral center.
